The Sabino Arana parking building in Bilbao will be closed to build a seven-storey hotel. The Bista Eder building in Miraconcha de San Sebastian has been rebuilt as a luxury hotel. Reconstruction of the gardens area of the parish Pio X de Gros for the construction of hotel, restaurant, supermarket and four-storey parking. A century-old villa in Ondarreta is being rebuilt to install a hotel. The Convento de la Concepción María de Ategorrieta will be renovated for the construction of a hotel, parking and a supermarket. The Andre Mari house in Itziar will be demolished and a hotel will be built.

Last year’s news series tells a change of direction in the city. The rumor of the hotel investiture model in the cities has spread as a plague in the real estate market, taking advantage that the rudder of the city is adrift and the city has become the destination of many vultures. Since there was a regulation to limit the number of announcements, is it not possible to do the same with hotels?

The landscape of the city has changed forever, in a difficult balance between the public interest and economic performance, knocking it down and rebuilding it, passing through some buildings and coming to others. Work for architects. But the process of substituting hotels that suffer many cities, somewhere, does not generate illusion. As the spade of the demolition machine empties the casings of a building that has been in existence for years, I feel that the city is emptying. And feeling doesn't have to do with nostalgia. The replacement architecture of the old building does not have to be worse than the historical architecture, it can even be a step further in the understanding of the historical, I believe in the possibility of the restoration operation.

But I fear that the predation of the city will not take place for good architecture. The weekend trolley visitor does not care if the walls are not solidary. The hotel building that aspires to be a host does not know the city, has no respect or affection for it. It's the ally of deception that has become the city.
