First monolingual

“Grandma died seven years ago, was the last monolingual of the family, refused to learn Turkish and always told us to speak Kurdish. Four years ago, my first nephew, the first Turkish monolingual family, was born. His brother knows the Kurdish well, he grew up with his grandmother and claims a Kurdish identity, but he has not passed it on to his daughter. Recently, his older sister has had a son and only talks about the Kurdish. Cousins will not be understood.”
