  • In the mid-1960s, the Alcor Foundation made several unsuccessful attempts to cryogenize cadavers. Finally, on January 12, 1967, Los Angeles psychology professor James Bedford died of cancer at the age of 73, achieving for the first time cryogenized his corpse.

Bedford was injected with cryoprotective agents and a substance called dimethyl sulfoxide. Currently, his body is located in the Alracan residence in the Arizona desert, in a conservation capsule, along with 147 other bodies frozen since then.
