In the French National Assembly, 50 of the 577 deputies took part in the debate on minority languages. However, Members of Parliament and citizens in favour of minority languages did not have much to look forward to in this House. At least the conclusion was this: The Minister of Culture, Christine Albanel, has said that article 2 of the Constitution will not be amended, that the law will not recognize the official status of minority languages and that the European Pact of Minority Languages will not be signed.
