Anerreka calls for continued control of the unrepaired damage caused by the Zubieta incinerator
  • The Anerreka Environmental Association, at the closing ceremony of the march that it has organised this day to commemorate the anniversary of the Arkaitzerreka River disaster caused by the ammonia spilled from the incinerator, has called for "to continue to do everything in our power", to "control the environmental damage caused by the pollution that it is causing and to make public the results until the incinerator is stopped". ". In the case of Arkaitzerreka, they have denounced that the damage caused by the spillage of a year ago remains unrepaired.

The participants in the march, organized by the Anerreka Environmental Association, have claimed that from the zero zone of the disaster, they want to continue living the Arkaitzerreka River, without incinerators, without heading. At 11:00 p.m., columns from the neighbours of Zubieta and Usurbil have split.

"As we have done so far, we must continue to do everything in our power, to control the environmental damage caused by the pollution that is happening up there, and to make the results public, until there is an incinerator that should never be set in motion. ".

"If we hadn't seen dead eels, how many more spills they would have continued to do."

One year after the Arkaitzerreka disaster, they recalled the events that took place in May 2020. Faced with the damage perceived by its neighbours, "first reactions: deny responsibility and ban access to URA observers. The managers of this facility are clear exponents of the impunity they have," the Anerreka Environmental Association denounced in the event held in that region.

However, "the popular initiative put on the table arguments about what happened here, which only forced the liars to take a step back, to recognize the crime committed, to say that they ended Arkaitzerreka's life."

Otherwise, according to Anerreka, "if the eel had not seen her dead, to know how many more spills she would have continued to do." They had already dumped, but there was no conclusive evidence... and whoa! In the third they came to burn the stream. This last spill, which in three consecutive days had recovered 2,200 cubic meters."

"The damage here is unrepaired."

Anerreka has denounced the lack of transparency in the process. "Transparency is sold to us by word when all legal permits are made available to them to conduct dark practices in a covert way." In addition, the environmental association has denounced that they have been denied all the information requested on what happened in Arkaitzerreka. "Also the institutions responsible for preserving the natural heritage of all, the URA agency and the environmental department of the Basque Government, in this case, are denying us information, we have asked them three times documents related to this issue, and they have not answered us. We want to know the status of the dossier opened by the Environment Department to the GHK. "The owner of environmental authorizations is the GHK, who has to deal with the consequences," said Arantxa Tapia, "but the damage here is not resolved."

As for the open investigation into the disaster, Anerreka has shown her discomfort by "the information that the Civil Guard Sepronta opened an investigation."

They have reminded us of what the investigation is. The resolution, which has spoken these weeks, "says it will investigate" the Gipuzkoa Waste Consortium (GHK) "after a year" of the Prosecutor's Office. "We're going to be very attentive," they announced from Anerreka, they called for mobilization.

In addition to the Arkaitzerreka disaster a year ago, the incinerator has "already had a fire, an explosion, a spill...", "that we have come to know in some way from the outside, to know what others have happened and what else will happen... that we don't know ourselves." Therefore, they affirm that "the very name they have named as a cover, the Environmental Complex of Gipuzkoa, hides the truth that in its practice it is an environmental degradation center of Gipuzkoa".

Anerreka has denounced that "this incinerator, built without heeding the best alternatives, continues to accumulate environmental damage that does not solve the problem of urban waste".

They say one thing and they say they do the other. "They say that the incinerator is to improve recycling, but the truth is that it is the same, that the peoples that recycle the most, punish them to pay more than the irresponsible peoples. They told us that it would be to burn only the urban waste and only the waste from Gipuzkoa, but they've been forgotten. Now, the industrial lobby of the regime governing Gipuzkoa and the PNV-PSOE tandem are being cut off from the ovens that are to be paid out with public money, because industrial waste "Auskalo nongo" is also going to be burned. There is no risk of contagion, the emissions from the fireplace will be continuously controlled! - you told us. And now we know that that is also a lie, that it will only be controlled in the 24 hours they choose a year," they said.
