The international summit will be held on 2 and 3 May in the city, organized by the World Tourism Organization (WTO) and the Basque Culinary Center. This year’s edition will be the fifth edition of the forum, supported by the Basque Government, the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa and the City Hall of Donostia, among others.
According to the TME, the objective of the forum is “to promote gastronomic tourism as a factor in the development of countries” and this year will have as its main theme the creation of jobs aimed at sustainable development and the promotion of entrepreneurship.
After concluding that the concept of sustainable tourism has lost its value, the Bizilagunak platform (Bizilagunak) presented a few days ago sixteen proposals for tourism growth, arguing that “the business of a few is causing damage to the lives of the majority of citizens”. Among them, the platform proposed the elimination of budgets for the promotion of urban branding and tourism.
