Documents leaked by Greenpeace’s Dutch department in April revealed the situation: The European Union and the United States face difficulties in reaching agreements on TTIPs. This has now been confirmed by statements made by the German Deputy Chancellor and Minister of Economy, Sigmar Gabriel, on ZDF.
According to Gabriel, “things are not moving” relative to the agreement. The two sides have held 14 rounds of meetings on the transatlantic agreement, but no agreement has been reached so far. According to Gabriel, this is due to the fact that “Europeans do not want to obey the wishes of the Americans.”
According to those reports that Greenpeace released in April, the issues that most affected the EU and the US were those of cosmetics, environmental protection or genetically modified living beings. Those reports corresponded to the thirteenth meeting in New York. Gabriel points out that four months later the situation remains blocked.
According to Banca y Negocios, the negotiations may have been postponed until after the elections in the United States, Germany and France. The first will be in November, the other two countries in 2017.
