A group of women have occupied the Alava-Velasco Palace of the Old Part of Vitoria-Gasteiz and have made Talka a "feminist space" for society. In a statement, they stated that "war" had been declared to the system: "We have a need, as women, mourners and trans, to put our bodies, our experiences, struggles, doubts and relationships in the foreground. We'll move from being assaulted, from living in the paintings, to receiving centers." They have announced that the resources will intervene and launch "new projects". "We're going to get what they've stolen from us."
They claim that feminism cannot be understood "without conflict" and that they will "collide": "Feminism is a struggle in itself and stands up against all forms of oppression. It causes a shock in others and it causes a shock in the root of the system." They have explained that they will not be sure within the current heteropatriarchal capitalist system and that they will not be free "until this turns": "To reclaim our lives and our bodies, we have to tear the system apart, plant the system to put life and care at the center," he added.
For all these reasons, they have stated that Talka wants to "start working from the base, to gradually turn it into a space for all women, women, women and trans".To this end, self-management, occupation and feminist self-defense are a firm commitment to the feminist initiative: "Talka is an integral project made from and for the people."
After today’s assembly and auzolan, they have also made an appeal for the coming days; tomorrow they will continue with the auzolan and an assembly will be convened for next Tuesday. The Ertzaintza has identified a number of women who were participating in the event.
