“It is a refuge for those who are like us, a space for all the women and women,” they explained in the opening and warned that “transfobos and fascists will have no place.” They report that Sinsorga originates in Euskera: zenzurgue or meaningless word used to define an unformalistic word.
Sympathetic are the pillars of this new space. These partners, in exchange for financial assistance, use Sinsorga for their personal, political or professional activities, for which they have enabled the chamber as a private space of the synsorgas. They encourage people to become partners and stress that thanks, among other things, to the economic momentum of all partners they have managed to open this feminist cultural space.
The pillars of the building are robust and rigid, but it seems to be as elegant and pompous as the Corinthian capitals. At the entrance are the neon, brilliance, color and five knots that were part of the old shop, transformed by five local designers.
On the ground floor is the “garito”, a drink and vegetarian and vegan food prepared by the cooperative Sustraia. Climbing the stairs, on the first floor there is shop but not of any kind: “There are products designed and produced according to feminist, own and other creators’ criteria.”
Under the title “The weight of flowers”, Varela and Momoitio welcome to book presentations, cultural activities, exhibitions and all cultural and artistic manifestations in this space.
At the beginning of the project it was decided that the whole building would be carried out by women in order to claim their presence in the construction sector. They accept that it has been more difficult than they expected and that they have confirmed that the treatment of women on the works is discriminatory.
The conditioning process, which lasted eighteen months, has been collected in a documentary with the producer Al Rim Films. The building has already opened its doors, but in 2024 they will release two audiovisuals to share their previous works and reflections. The creators of the creator of the creator make an illusion that it is a place they have often dreamed of and that can now be known through all the senses in the Casco Viejo de Bilbao.
