The Conscience was bombed with drones on the night of Thursday to Friday, thirteen miles from Malta. The attack landed on the ship's bow, and the Palestine Freedom Flotilla initiative confirmed in a press release published on Sunday that it wounded four crew members. Since then, the Maltese Government has prevented the ship from entering the country’s waters, and the Maltese Armed Forces have blocked the way for activists who have wanted to go there to offer help.
The initiative also reports that the Government of Malta has shown its intention to repair the ship in the last few hours, but this is not enough for the Freedom Flotilla to make clear in the note: "We call on the Maltese Government to enter the country without any obstacles and not to impose conditions to block our peaceful mission of humanitarian aid to Gaza." Agus Gorbea, one of the Basque representatives of the attack initiative, said on Monday morning that the activists are still negotiating with the Maltese government to take the ship to a port in the country.
Mikel Zuluaga returns to the Basque Country "Mikelon"
At the time of the attack there was only the crew on board, as the activists were on the ground waiting to be embarked. About 50 activists from 21 countries around the world were on board, including Basque citizen Mikel Zuluaga 'Mikelon'. On Friday, he told LARA in the hours following the attack: “Israel’s impunity is unbelievable. Previous approaches have been made, this time as in 2024 we thought they would pose technical problems to prevent the ship from sailing... but the ship has been bombarded, bombarded. If they do this here, what they won’t do in Palestine. It's just brutality." Well, Zuluaga informs Agus Gorbea that he will return to the Basque Country soon.
