Students will be closed from Wednesday to Thursday at the Faculty of Medicine. The situation of the Basque language in the Degree in Medicine has been denounced as worsening, as it was: enrolment in the Basque language has decreased, so students believe that there may be a reduction in the Basque language classes.
According to the Medical Assembly, the Dean’s Office is not committed to this issue and has condemned the risk of not only class restrictions, but also numerous violations of rights: "the transformation of bilingual places into monolingual ones, the worse conditions for hiring and working Basque teachers, the lack of interest in betting on language development..." They add that the state of the Basque language is not good in health studies other than medicine.
The members of the Medical Assembly have prepared a prolific program for Wednesday and Thursday, calling for a demonstration in favor of the Basque language that will take place on Thursday with the other students of the Leioa campus.
