The Asteasu prisoner sought asylum from Switzerland on the grounds that he had been subjected to torture and rape when he was arrested by the Spanish police in 1999. He was denied this request, stating that "he has not convincingly demonstrated that he was tortured."

He was sentenced to six years in prison for collaborating with ETA, but escaped before being arrested again. Last March, Switzerland approved the extradition of Txapartegi, and now with the confirmation of the decision, they have ten days to appeal. In the meantime, a meeting has been called on July 7 at 8 p.m. to report on the state of Asteasun.

Txapartegi has a three-and-a-half year sentence pending in Spain.
