Pictures of Mozolomendi: Occupied and self-managed housing in Lekeitio
  • In the struggle for the right to housing, to make Lekeitio a home for those in need, several houses of the building called “Casas de Maestros” were occupied in 2013. Currently, there are a total of five occupied homes. A day of proclamation, celebration and reflection to celebrate the work done in winter and reflect on the future has been organized for June 30.

Over speculation and the market, the collective Mozolomendi of Lekeiti has begun to create a shelter to live in, and some of its Maestro houses are being occupied and adapted to live there. Three areas are being prepared, one has been converted into a multipurpose room and the fifth has been given the status of a warehouse, a workshop and a meeting place.

In this way, in addition to being a living space, their intention is to extend this framework to the people, especially as a contribution from the popular movement to both the people and the movement. It will be an open room and “a space for conferences, assemblies, courses, libraries or rest, where you can prepare coffee, infusions and/or meals”. They want to dedicate the media they are building to the rest of the collectives and members of the popular movement.

That they want to be the mirror of a mold of philosophy of working and influencing with a view to the people: “a practical philosophy based on popular power, self-management and direct action to achieve power for citizens in as many areas as possible.”

To celebrate the work done in the winter and to clarify what needs to be done in the future, a day of proclamation, celebration and reflection is organized on June 30:
