Mozilla Firefox, the free browser of the Basque community
  • We have many web browsers to choose from; some free, some not; some in Basque, some not; some that work on different operating systems and devices, some not. The Mozilla Foundation’s Firefox browser is something to be proud of. In fact, it is a lightweight and comfortable browser that is developed and maintained by the community of software developers by Musutru, which supports the latest web technologies and, in various cases, also contributes to the creation of new standards.

As if all this were not enough, it also has other characteristics that are very important from the Basque point of view. For example, the Basque community, led by the Librezale group, has been keeping Firefox in Basque for several years and all versions have been available in Basque since day one. Firefox is also available on all the operating systems and popular devices that Basques use: GNU/Linux in different flavors, on all Mac and Windows, on Android tablets and smartphones, iPad, iPhone, etc.

So we're in the best position we could ask for. An excellent browser that we ourselves use and that we can use everywhere: on mobile smartphones, computers, tablets, TVs... However, it could be said that the Basques do not exploit this unique opportunity enough. In fact, as is the case in many other corners of the world, the use of Microsoft browsers is going down and the use of the Google Chrome browser is going up and up again constantly. The most popular browser today is Google. Google, through various tools (Search, Analytics, Webmaster Tools, Adwords), decides whether blogs and websites around the world are well designed, what is the time to make websites accessible, when to use SSL certificates, etc. The pace of guest accommodations is increasingly dictated by this unique company. What was missing was that the company Google also controlled web clients. And that's exactly what's happening. If we give a company a monopoly on the Internet, it is not possible to guarantee net neutrality.

Some people in favor of free software, almost without realizing it, are putting Firefox on the sidelines and accidentally this unique Google company in the US is helping to gain control of much of the Internet that has become so important in this globalized world. Many devices have Navigator or Google Chrome installed, but Firefox needs to be installed on its own. It's only 5 minutes and no one will make that gesture for us. We have similar trends with Erda and Euskara. As Basques are aware of our language choices, let us consciously choose our browser. Firefox is great and there are plenty of reasons to use it. Let's use it then!

In the face of this situation, members of the Librezale group, we would like to remind our friends and colleagues of the advantages of using Firefox:

  • Firefox is free and available.
  • Firefox is fast and convenient.
  • Firefox is adaptable and powerful.
  • Firefox works on all your devices.
  • Firefox addresses your privacy, security, and user experience like no other.

In addition to all these advantages, we would like to remind you of some of the reasons why you use Firefox:

  • By using Firefox you are betting on a freer and fairer world.
  • When you use Firefox, you reinforce the Basque language and other minority languages of the world.
  • By using Firefox you promote the Mozilla Foundation and help achieve its goals.

In fact, the Firefox browser is a project of the Mozilla Foundation, but it also has many others and all or all of them aim to help keep the Internet healthy, open and easy to use for everyone.
