On April 10 of this year, on the 4th anniversary of the death of Iñigo Cabacas, a mass demonstration was held with the motto Tu luz viva (“Your light is alive”) from the Biscay Palace of Justice, Buenos Aires Street, to the alley of María Díaz de Haro, next to Bar Kirruli. Specifically to proclaim that "justice also has a role in this."
Almost eight months later, on Thursday, December 1, at 7:00 p.m., Iñigo Cabacas received the ball from the Basque Country four years ago.Iñigo Cabacas, family members, friends and citizens will demand no more injustice in the streets of Bilbao, especially before the Superior Court of the Basque Country (EAEAN), which is in charge of the investigation in the Cabacas case, and before the Biscay Court, which must resolve the appeal filed by the Cabacas family.
The family asks that the border guard call them back to testify after the agents publicly stated that they knew “who else shot.” After the judge of the EAEAN, Ana Torres, decided to reject the demands of the family, they appealed to the Court of Biscay.
Judge Torres ordered a six-month extension in June to clarify the appeal. Five of the six months of extension have elapsed and the appeal has received no response. The family said nothing had been done during that time.
According to the information they have received, their response to the appeal is assured during the family meeting on November 7. They fear it may be an advance to close the case. He called on the Administration of Justice and the Basque Government to “set aside other interests and do justice”.
"We don't understand how in the 21st century the police killed a person in an Athletic match and how they don't want to investigate," said Iñigo Cabacas' father.
However, the receipt of the revocation of the appeal would not necessarily lead to the closure of the case. There is an opportunity to go to trial with evidence against several defendants. In the opinion of the family, however, the re-declaration by the police is a very important piece of evidence to clarify what happened and to investigate the main perpetrators, especially the one who ordered the police charge.
