The Pier, the Party and the Joyful Revolution

With the slogan, the Pirates want to claim the area of the pier that is the center of the party. In fact, the movement wants to evoke the obstacles that have to be faced in the use of the pier year after year. This year, for example, the renovation work of the lonja, which will last throughout the summer, has led the Pirates to rethink the parade.

Although the stage for the concerts remains the same, it will be installed in the area known as the Ballast area in previous years. There will also be a small stage. Therefore, all this concert and txosnagune will be the Flamenco Zone, and the Lasta Zone will disappear. These changes have led the Pirates to complete the new security protocol.

Remember that the renovation of the Lonja is based on a project agreed by the Basque Government in collaboration with the City Council of San Sebastián. The project, which has a cost of 1.5 million euros, aims to divide the fish market into three areas: fishing activity, the marina and the valuation centre for low-lying fishing.

The works and the payment of fees mean that the Pirates of San Sebastián will continue on the pier, combining a festive atmosphere with proclamation. For example, the San Sebastian Pirates will willingly board Dono$tia on Monday, August 13. Participants can now register via the following link: www.donostiakopiratak.eus/abordatzea/izen-emateak/. Attention, because there will be only three rounds to mount the raft, between 10:00 and 14:00. In addition, as a novelty, the lunch of the boarding day will be held in Flamenca. Tickets will be on sale at Trikuharri (Antiguo), Kata (Egia) and Rekalde (Old Town) and on the day of boarding there will also be access to the same at the pier.

Feminism or nothing

The San Sebastian Pirates want to express a strong message: they want to make it clear that they want to build a free party space and that sexual assault will not be tolerated. In this regard, the movement welcomes the new Zirgari team throughout the year. The Working Group has deepened and structured the elaboration of the protocol against sexual assault. This year, the Denunciation phone will be active throughout the week: 664 164 408. In addition, the Punto Morea will premiere near the Flamenca area, every night from 23:30 to 04:00. This area will aim to provide a quick response to possible attacks by providing the appropriate protection for the attacked person.

On the other hand, it is worth highlighting the commitment to women that is carried out in the musical program year after year. An example of this is the evident presence of women in eleven of the fifteen groups this year: Fan&Go, The Capaces, Skakeitan, Ezetaerre, Krii Colectivo, Mad Muasel, Niña Coyote and Chico Tornado, Mice, Olatz Salvador, Serrulla, Belako. In this sense, the Pirates of San Sebastian want to point out that the programming of the Collective Krii in the Flamenca space has been symbolically one of the main challenges of this year. In fact, the Krii Collective, made up of the DJs “Frances Be”, “Eddie Mae” and “Les Alsborregach”, aims to work through electronic music on three axes: the safety and freedom of women in dance halls, the programming of electronic music from the perspective of women and educational and sharing sessions to empower women in this style.

Twelve brotherhoods, eleven initiatives

Beyond music, different cultural expressions will make up the exuberant program of the Pirates of San Sebastián, since the twelve brotherhoods that make up the movement have prepared numerous initiatives. The party will open to four winds, immersing the different neighborhoods of San Sebastián in a festive atmosphere. Don’t forget the delicious dinners that will be offered every night from 21:00 in the Trinity Square. Mikel Karton, Lur Korta, Kilimak, Physis Vs. Nomos and Bi Kabbalah, Sara Azurza, Ainhoa Larrañaga and Iker Lauroba and/or La Jodedera will host these beautiful dinners. Below is a reading of the messages extended to the Pirates by the different Brotherhoods that will be approaching Semana Grande.
