Javier Solana’s speech was interrupted by several people in the Alhóndiga of Bilbao. They have risen up with ‘no war’ signs to say no to NATO. A meeting was also held in front of the Alhóndiga in Bilbao to denounce the visit of Solana. The association Casa Ecuador has published the photos of the protests:

Solana gave her speech at the international conference Bilbao European Encounters, entitled ‘Cosmopolitan Europe: democratising common challenges’. The festival took place on 8 November at 19:00 in the Azkuna Zentroa.

The Bilbao Antimilitarist Group explains that Solana helped to bomb cities and civilians against the authority of the United Nations and renounce the Geneva Convention. He also claims that he armed paramilitaries during the Yugoslav wars, involved in cases of murder, prostitution and drug and organ trafficking. He said he didn’t want a “killer” like that.
