The ELA union was one of the first to provide data on Thursday’s strike. The strike, called by this union in all sectors of education together with STEILAS and explained that the follow-up has been equivalent to that of the week: 75% in teaching, 60% in special education, 30% in nursery schools and 65% among kitchen and cleaning workers.
However, the LAB has provided other data: 70% of teachers have been followed up, according to the LAB. This union has only called a strike between teachers in these two days and not in the other three collectives with a majority of representatives, which has created disagreements and tension between the convening unions.
According to the Department of Education of the Basque Government, the number of people who joined the strike on the second day was slightly higher, but it is still far from the data provided by the unions: 42.9% among teachers, 24.5% in special education, 17.1% in cleaning and dining, 15.6% in nursery schools
In any case, both have addressed the heads of the Basque Government and warn that if they do not receive a response, they will continue along the same path: "To those who believe that we are at the end of the journey, we want to say clearly and loudly that we are only at the beginning of the journey. We are aiming for a paradigm shift in education," says LAB
ELA calls for a solution for all sectors: "In these two days, the vast majority of workers from different sectors of public education have clearly shown that they do not consider the Government's proposals sufficient, because they do not respond to the most serious problems facing each sector of public education and reject the restrictions applied."
The mass demonstrations
Public education workers gathered in front of the headquarters of the Basque Government in Vitoria-Gasteiz on Wednesday, showing muscle with demonstrations in the capitals again on Thursday at noon:
