If someone like Seymour Hersh or chance does not intervene, we will need many years to know for sure who has destroyed the Nova Kakhova dam. Let us not lose hope: I thought of the case of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline. But Sy – entering the back door, it’s true – lifted the blanket and for me the fact is quite clear. Some still scare the light bulb.

The Dnipro River reservoir, for the time being, we hardly know how it has been done. Illuminating the modus operandi could help you understand the nature of the explosion. However, it will be necessary to wait until the reservoir is sufficiently empty, that is to say months are needed. And then the willingness to look at a broken containment wall and get to grips.

The damage observed in the images indicates the existence of explosion in the dam cavity. But that also makes little sense: since a gigantic infrastructure of this kind was built, it could not only be enabled, but it could be fully prepared to be destroyed in a rush (not to be frightened: it would not be an extraordinary case). Therefore, anyone who has the potential to activate the mechanism could do so. In the case of Ukraine, both parties. Not just highlighting.

The warfare catcher says that these kinds of horrors are produced on the defensive, and quite serious, by who they are. In the case of Nova Kakhova, however, it does not add much light either, partly because, although the humanitarian consequences of the destruction are obvious, the military is not at all transparent. On the bank flooded beneath the dam there was no expectation of an extraordinary military movement; and the agitation that has to appear on its margins as the swamp is emptied... Will it better protect someone than a full swamp? All this is defensive, but not in the vital anguish, with the approval that the most likely would be Russian forces.

However, experience reminds us that this type of mass usually causes much greater damage than previous calculations, even to the author's own part. And they have almost never achieved their military goals. At a lower level, in Ukraine they became similar II. During the World War, no significant military consequences.

But the most memorable precedent, and the most common one, 85 years ago, is the destruction in Huayuankou of the dams that endured the Yellow River by the forces of Chiang Kai-shek, following the recommendations of General de Falkenhausen, during the war against the Japanese in June 1938. The military consequences were very important, but they were not decisive. And the amount of civilian losses, in any case enormous, is still being studied. Tens, hundreds of thousands of people died.

It lit up relatively quickly in the 1980s after the death of Chiang.
