Rekalde is a PhD in Economic and Business Sciences and a Bachelor in Business Administration and Management. He also studied at the European School of Training (Coaching) and in 2019 received a special doctoral prize for his thesis in this field. He worked in training, both in teaching and banking, and in recent years he worked as a professor in vocational training and at the University of the Basque Country.

Urtzi Urkizu recalled in Berria that he worked very hard in the Basque field. He was one of the founders of the magazine Binke de Galdakao and Usansolo (Bizkaia). Media Director Jon Gómez Garai has pointed out that the journal emerged thanks to the work of Rekalde and that his death has left a “great void.” Binke ascribes to Rekalde that Galdakao and Usansolo have media in Basque.

The Basque in the centre

In the last two years he has been a spokesperson for the Apantallamiento movement in the Basque Country, along with Alex Aginagalde. Urkizu receives the words of Aginagalde: “It has been one of the fundamental pillars of our work team. It will be very difficult to fill the gap it has left.” Rekalde has received several awards on behalf of this movement: Rikardo Arrangi finalist the communication prize; Argia for the best campaign; or Hau Pittu Hau Euskara of the comparsa bilbaína. Upon receiving this last prize, he claimed the importance of Basque productions and doubles, placing the Basque in the center so that future generations can have models in Basque.
