A 41-year-old man has been arrested for beating up his ex and his friend. It happened during the festivities in the neighborhood of Miribilla at 3:00 pm on Saturday morning. The attacker left the woman unconscious and caused facial injuries to both of them before they escaped. The victims were taken to the hospital in Basurto, where the police arrested the alleged assailant on Saturday night.

The festive committee of Miribilla, San Adrian and Zabala called for a meeting for Sunday afternoon. More than five hundred people gathered, and the attendees expressed their opposition to the “brutal attack.” The inter-gang games to be held that day were postponed in protest.

For their part, all the parties of the City Council of Bilbao issued a joint statement condemning the attack. The statement, in addition to supporting the victims, calls on citizens “not to be complicit in any kind of sexist attacks, and to report cases of violence.” The City Council expresses its willingness to use all the tools at its disposal.
