Herri Bildu has announced that Gorka Torre was prosecuted in September last year for the charge of carrying out on behalf of UNESCO a series of acts in favour of the Basque country. On 21 and 27 September last year, Herri Biltza painted in various health centres in Izpura (Nafarroa Behera) and Donibane Garazi. The paintings made for the declaration of Euskera as a world cultural heritage were made on behalf of UNESCO.
According to the order, they also accuse the Basque militant of refusing to give his identity, fingerprints and DNA when he was arrested. He will be tried before the Baiona Court on 26 March.
“UNESCO states that the protection of the world’s cultural heritage is fundamental and that cultural diversity is now being attacked. The French and Spanish authorities are opposed to UNESCO’s objectives of attacking and dying Basque,” they said.
Herribiltza, for its part, explains the reason for the actions. He says that Euskera is “endangered.” Because a language needs preferential treatment to survive, as the collective explains. “In Euskal Herria, the Basque language is treated as a secondary language, for example in traffic signs and in these public health institutions”. He says that the use of the Basque Country is also being reduced and that, consequently, “the Basque Country is on the way to disappear in the situation in which it finds itself”.
Call mobilization the day the matter passes. The appointment is on 26 March at 13:30 a.m. before the Baiona Court.
