- The day after the Supreme Court of the Basque Country rejected the appeal of GuraSOS, José Ignacio Asensio, Deputy for the Environment of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, signed the award of the incinerator. The work is expected to begin in about a month and a half.
Urbaser, LKS, Moyua, Murias and Altuna y Uria are the companies that have obtained the award; the French Meridian Investments and the German Steinmuller Babcock will also participate. The other companies participating in the competition will have a period of fifteen days to file appeals against the decision of the Provincial Council.
The spokesman of the Provincial Council, Imanol Lasa, stressed that so far the courts have always justified them, implying that the rest of the remedies that GuraSOS has installed and that are pending will not change the situation either.
Demonstration against the incinerator on Saturday
On the 4th of February there will be a demonstration against the incinerator of Gipuzkoa, convened last week by the Anti-Cremation Movement. The mobilisation will take place in Hondarribia at 12:30 p.m. with the slogan “No incinerations in Txingudi and Zubia”.
