The authors of the report highlight the need for medium-long distance strategies to influence the internet situation in Basque. A general data is also provided: There are 26,663 websites with some content in Basque (16% of the websites in the Basque Country as a whole).

The graph is: Puntu.eus

The PuntuEUS Observatory is an initiative of the PuntuEUS Foundation that measures the state of the Basque language on the Internet, the results of which are available on the website. The analysis is carried out once a year and the result of the measurement carried out on the data of 2017 has been presented in an appearance in Bilbao by Lorea Bilbao, Provincial Councillor for Basque and Culture of the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, and Josu Waliño, Director of the PuntuEUS Foundation.

Three points were highlighted:

  • Internet usage of Basque has remained stable for the last 3 years.
  • Based on the observatory, the .EUS map, developed by Irontec, has also been presented.
  • The growth of the .EUS domain is taking place especially in companies.

Waliño points out that during the three years in which the Observatory has measured the Internet in the Basque Country, there has been little change in data. The fact that similar results have been received in the last three years shows that changing language habits on the Internet requires medium-long term policies and that photography does not change day by day.

If we take into account all the websites in the Basque Country, the number of websites with content in Basque is 26,663, 16% of the total. However, the use of Basque is very different if you only study websites with a .EUS domain. In fact, 90% of websites with .EUS domains use Basque.
