Last October, Eldiario asked all the ministries to find out what criteria are followed in the institutional announcements and whether they support some media in a special way. The newspaper appealed to the Transparency Council after being ignored by the eight ministries.

According to Eldiario, the exact amounts were forced to be made public by the Transparency Council, and now the eight ministries have turned to the National Court to continue hiding the information.

In 2015, the Spanish government spent €37.7 million on media ads. However, it is not possible to know what amounts are allocated to each medium and with what criteria distributions are made.

Although the law of Institutional Announcements states that they must be distributed with objective and non-partisan criteria, as Eldiario denounces, it is not known if this is done or not.
