A regulation established in 2000 modified the existing school dining model. This law established a model of “direct management” in all the dining rooms of the public centers of the CAPV, managed directly by the Basque Government. Through this model, the canteens are managed by a catering company until the school kitchens disappear. That’s why the initiative came up with the goal of returning sustainable food to public schools.
In response to its demands, in 2018 the Basque Government launched the school canteen commission. However, the School School School’s School School Parents’ Association (AMPA) has called for the management of school canteens as far as the administration is concerned to be delegated by the School Parents’ Association (AMPA).
In October of last year, a new agreement was reached with the Basque Government, which must analyze within four months the future proposal for the construction of kitchens in the Basque Country.
Looking to the future
At present, and after all this process, the platform ensures that the Basque Government has not put an alternative to the management of large catering companies. However, the Infrastructure Plan 2019-2023 provides for the construction of seven kitchens.
