Both have asked the Basque Government’s Industry Department to intervene to ensure the continuity of the company, whose construction, assembly and maintenance services related to renewable energies are in a pre-insolvency situation.
The ELA union denounces that GES wants to "sell the service of maintenance of wind farms" in Spain, which is said to be the "most profitable" part of the business. The nationalist union believes that without this service it would not be a viable company: "It would mean the end of society." Likewise, ELA recalls that "in recent months the company has been decapitalized by its owner, with the slowness and complicity of its current management". For this, they have used "a lot of very expensive audits that were not necessary".
Likewise, according to CCOO, the owner of GES, the English investment group 3i, wants to "get rid of" the company. On the other hand, Gamesa is accused of denying the workload to its former owner and main client.
The CCOO considers that GES is in danger of shutting down the company. If this happens, 1,400 workers from 40 other countries, such as Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, China, Chile or Mexico, would go to the streets in addition to about 200 Enekuri workers.
Both the CCOO and the ELA have transmitted several requests to the GES management, such as "transparency" and a feasibility plan. The nationalist union has demanded a “serious commitment to pay wages” and has been willing to demand the dismissal of the management team.
On the other hand, the CCOO requires the investment group 3i to publicly communicate its intentions towards the company. The same union has asked Gamesa to help the GES instead of participating in the “intrigues that will lead workers to anabasa” of the Andorran company. In fact, the CCOO considers that the 3i group “has the sole purpose of driving the company to its finish” and that in this way “it has the management of GES as an accomplice”. The union has assured that it will not allow this type of operation to be carried out and that they will use "all possible means".
Ten years of career
In 2006, Gamesa sold the company GES to Group 3i, seven years after its creation. In the purchase agreement, Gamesa accepted 3i as the main service provider through the company GES. However, the CCOO denounces that "this agreement lost its force and there is no intention to renew it, so it can be understood that Gamesa wants to renounce the services of GES".
Since the economic crisis spread, there have been no good times for the GES group. In 2014, the company announced plans to fire 627 workers, 96 of them from the Erandio plant. In the end, 290 lost their jobs.
Last March, GES sold the group’s companies Siemsa Industria and Siemsa Control y Sistemas to Ferrovial.
