On the 8th, the International Day of the Gypsy People will be celebrated, and we have been with him on the pretext of that date. The full interview will be published in the April 22 issue of LA LUZ; you have a preview of this:
"Both in Navarre and in the European Union there is a tremendous amount of racism and xenophobia, and together with other communities of different backgrounds, we experience one of the greatest situations of discrimination. This exclusion affects us in all areas of life, examples of which are the serious school failure that we have among our young people, difficulties in obtaining housing or work, and the denial of entry in some places because of being or looking like a gypsy".
"In some bars in the Old Town of Pamplona, goalkeepers have refused to allow some gypsies to enter the premises on the grounds that the owners have an order not to allow anyone of the gypsy ethnic group to enter. As soon as we heard about these events, we went to court together with Sos Racismo y Ararte and the cases are being studied."
"We would like to have the place, the protagonism and the decision-making capacity that corresponds to us, to be at the center in matters that concern us, to be active subjects, so that they do not decide for us from the outside. We are often talked about and special policies are made for us, so we would like to be present not only in the streets, but also in the spaces where decisions are made."
"Education is a matter of great concern to us in the Federation. (...) In the Alfonso X El Sabio school in San Adrián, for example, the figure of the operating school has been inserted both inside and outside the school to mediate between students, teachers, family and the environment. We are pleased that it is having good results, school absenteeism has decreased considerably in three years and the relationship between families and the school has also improved considerably."
“In addition to working with women on the path to equality, we also set our sights on the “Metachodemacho/From Manhood to Manhood” campaign launched by Action Against Treatment in February last year, because we see the need to question the current model of masculinity that perpetuates the roles and privileges of men.”
