The Women's World March of the Basque Country has published a note denouncing the Machista murder and calling on the citizens to participate in the demonstrations on 13 June. At 19:00 there was Barakaldo (Bide Ona plaza) and Donostia (Boulevard plaza), at 19:30 Bilbao (Plaza Arriaga) and Vitoria (Plaza de la Virgen Blanca), Pamplona at 20:00 (Plaza del Ayuntamiento).
The 53-year-old man was arrested by the Ertzaintza last Friday in Barakaldo for killing his 90-year-old mother. According to the Basque Government Department of Security, he died on 26 April at the Cruces Hospital. According to her son, the woman fell and therefore had injuries. However, the health personnel detected evidence of violence and the Ertzaintza started Barakaldo's study No. 4. At the request of the Examining Court. They concluded that it was the child himself who caused the injuries and that, in addition, he was very serious when he was hospitalized because he had not been treated before.
The World Women’s March warns that the latter would be the second male murder committed in the Basque Country in 2022. They denounce family male violence: “Women* know firsthand what risks are inside the home and in the private space of our lives.” To face it, they appeal to continue to go out into the streets, to “denounce this structural violence”. “Despite being sick and sometimes tired, we know that we only have to keep fighting and going out on the street,” they said.
They have also asked for “collective responses” to institutions and public administrations, especially to public services related to life care.
