In a statement sent this Thursday night, EA announced the opening of a process of primaries to elect the new secretary general of the party. According to the note, this is a decision taken by the EA militancy in the Lower House.
The critical sector of the party has denied in the newspapers of the News Group that this is the case.
The waters are revolted in EA: earlier this month, Carlos Garaikoetxea, founder of the party and former president of the CAV, expressed in an act of tribute at Deba that the party is “in danger of disappearing” and called for a “clear roadmap” to turn the situation around.
The way in which EA participates in EH Bildu is, according to the words of Garaikoetxea, the closure of the case. He advocated a return to the 2011 coalition model, in disagreement with the “integration” that has been taking place in recent years between the parties of the leftist sovereign bloc.
However, the debate on the primaries is more technical: the critics believe that the election process of the secretary-general cannot succeed because the party ' s commission of assurances, a body exercising the function of judge of the conflicts within the party, has decided to suspend it provisionally until two questions are clarified: Make available to all members of the Party Executive the database that brings together all EA affiliates; and review participants who do not pay the fee.
The territorial coordinators of Gipuzkoa, Navarra and Álava, as well as members of the national executive of EA, among others, are in the critical sector. On the same day, the party’s leadership opened a dossier sanctioning several party members for organizing a press conference in June this year requesting access to the affiliate database.
