Last Monday, a tribute to Zamarreño was held in the Altza neighborhood of San Sebastián and angry that he was not invited, Herzog tweeted: “I want you to know that I have resigned from the Partido Popular in Gipuzkoa. The fact that I was not invited to the tribute to my great friend Zamarreño made me feel out of place.”

Hertog has become known for having made statements outside of his party’s line in recent years, especially in relation to the Basque conflict. “I admit that there have been tortures, these things have happened,” he said, for example, on Jordi Évole’s TV show Salvados.

He has also participated in the Edificio process, sponsored by all the municipal groups. Victims from all sides have come together to take steps towards coexistence.
