The Government plans to open a centre in Bilbao for migrants on the way
  • Another destination country, the spokesman of the Basque Government, Josu Erkoreka, announced his intention to open a centre in or near Bilbao to care for migrants in the Basque Country. Migrants could stay in the new facility for two to three weeks. Currently, they can only stay in reception centres for a maximum of five days.

“Caring for people who are in situations of vulnerability because they are sick or pregnant or need special help” is one of the objectives, Erkoreka emphasizes.

When asked by Euskadi Radio, the mayor of Bilbao, Juan Mari Aburto, said he welcomed the opening of the center in or around the capital of Bizkaia.
