A man from Bayonne is being tried by the Court of Pau on charges of rape of eight minors
  • The 69-year-old man was assaulted in 20 years. Two men have been arrested in San Sebastián on charges of raping a minor; two other men are also being investigated for suspected gang rape. The minor who has filed a complaint is under the guardianship of the social services of Gipuzkoa.

A 69-year-old man from Bayonne is being tried in the Pau Court on charges of rape and sexual assault against minors in 20 years, according to several media reports. He attacked a total of eight minors, three of whom were grandchildren. He attacked children for twenty years, the last in 2022. In 2021, he was first reported to have been abused as a child by a man, followed by the other seven. After being denied for a long time, in 2023 the man accepted the facts exposed in the accusations made. The sentence is expected on Thursday.

The complainants explain that they had a close, “trustworthy” man who allowed them to stay alone with the children. He was also responsible for young people and some summer camps in a rugby area in Bayonne, but no complaints have come from this context.

In San Sebastian, two arrested and two under investigation

Two people have been arrested for sexually assaulting a minor. The attack took place on Monday morning in a parking lot on Mount Ulia, the girl who was attacked is under the guardianship of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa. The police are also investigating two other men suspected of involvement in gang rape.

The Minister of Security of the Basque Government, Bingen Zupiria, in statements made on Radio Euskadi on Wednesday morning, asked to be “very careful” with the information provided in order to protect the child. Zupiria made a note of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa. In this note, the Provincial Council expresses its “full support and solidarity with the victim and his/her environment.”
