AHT denounces that the worker killed in Atxondo has been a victim of "greed" by AHT Stop!
  • AAV Stop says that behind deaths like Tuesday in AAV’s works are only “conditions of slavery” and “racist, humiliating and degrading treatment.” The City Council of Atxondo has requested that the facts be investigated and clarified. Thirteen workers have already died in the works of the AVE and this Friday the unions have called for a rally to denounce it in Bilbao.

Last Tuesday in the works of the railway section of the AVE of Atxondo a worker died falling on a piece. According to Osalan, the 49-year-old A.H.G. co-worker suffered a bloodshed and bled to death in the works themselves.

AHT Stop it! The association denounces that, beyond this "cold reading", there is a different reality in the works of the AVE, conditioned by "the greed of big companies" and sub-contractual chains, because the workers suffer "precariousness, insecurity, excessive working hours and constant stress".

The Atxondo part is assigned to the temporary business association formed by Dragados and Tecsa, both subsidiaries of the multinational ACS, which has received millionaire assignments in the works of AAV. Dragados is part of the so-called “AAV G7” group, which has placed him among the seven construction companies that are prosecuted or fined for “fraudulently distributing public works contracts to each other.”

The deceased worker worked for the subcontractor Conprovial (Constructora Proyectos Viales de Colombia Conprovial), according to the LAB union. That is to say, he was a worker of a company subcontracted by a company of a labor association in the hands of a multinational

The deceased worker worked for the subcontractor Conprovial (Constructora Proyectos Viales de Colombia Conprovial), according to the LAB union. In other words, he was an employee of a company subcontracted by a company of a labor association in the hands of a multinational.

AHT Stop! highlights the “racist, humiliating and insulting” treatment that exists in this type of work, ensuring that in most cases the migrants in vulnerable situations are the ones who carry out these tasks. In the face of this “labor exploitation”, he also denounces the irresponsible behavior of the administrations of the communities.

A few months ago, the association expanded its testimony about the “conditions of slavery” in which workers live in the works of the AVE of Navarre. In the case of the so-called Euskal Y that is being carried out in Álava, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa, thanks to the joint research carried out by LAR and the ELA union, published in the chronicle book Zuloan, we have revealed more testimonies and cases.

As a result, 13 workers have already died in the construction of the AVE. For all these reasons, the AVE asks that the works “stop immediately”.

Town Hall of Atxondo: “We ask you to investigate and clarify what happened”

The City Council of Atxondo has issued an institutional statement expressing its “condolences and solidarity” with the families of the worker killed in the works of the AVE.

The City Council affirms that occupational safety must be a “priority” in any activity and for this it considers it essential to “strictly enforce” the regulations of prevention.

In the same vein, it calls on public officials to investigate and clarify what happened on Tuesday, “so that such misfortunes do not happen again”, and joins the calls that have been organized to denounce the death.

Concentration in Bilbao

LAB, Esk, EHNE-Etxalde, Steilas and Tres will convene this Friday in Bilbao to denounce the 13 deaths of AAV works so far.

Under the slogan “The bosses and the institutions make us sick and kill us”, they will meet at 11:00 in the morning on Gran Via Street, in front of the headquarters of the Basque Government.
