The United States of America and Iran held the first round of further talks on the Islamic Republic ' s nuclear programme last Saturday in Muscat, Oman. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and U.S. Representative Steve Witkoff, who will lead the negotiating team, said after the first meeting that the “climate of talks” was “positive.” It seems that the rejection of the economic sanctions imposed on Iran is on the table.

Donald Trump decided to withdraw from the Comprehensive Action Plan in 2018. In 2015, this plan was signed between Western powers and Iran, committing Iran to focus its nuclear program exclusively on "peaceful purposes" in exchange for lifting the economic sanctions imposed by the West. Since Trump canceled the deal in 2018, they have not spoken more about the issue until last weekend.

The US president, however, maintains a threatening tone by suggesting that he can launch military actions against Iran if there is no agreement in the negotiations. "I think it's better for everyone to come to an agreement," he said last week.

In the context of rising international tension, the Islamic Republic of Iran has lately been warned that it could change its nuclear programme and military doctrine, unless threats from the United States and the State of Israel materialize. General Yadollah Javani has recently stated that Iran can enter a "new era" in terms of nuclear development.

However, for the time being, talks between Iran and the United States will continue. Looks like this Saturday will be the second meeting in Rome. Iranian Minister Araqchi is also said to be traveling to Russia ahead of this, to inform the Russian government of his talks with Washington, according to several sources.
