New Winds warned that the installation of wind farms entails "the construction of roads and access tracks of six meters wide, concrete shoes with a diameter of 20 meters and high voltage lines. These works have a serious environmental impact.
The areas affected by this macro-project include habitats of "great interest", where native plant species such as xerophilic beech forests and Cantabrian basophils or mesoxerophilic meadows are found. The forests also host forest fauna, such as the red myrtle and the mamba, two species at risk of extinction.
"With a high risk of depopulation, nature and the environment are the main tourist and residential attraction." The platform announced that in "very close" locations, "high acoustic impact, light pollution and constant traffic of vehicles and heavy machinery" are foreseen, which will cause inconvenience to the neighbors and the traffic would enter from places where it is currently forbidden to circulate.
Nueva Viento assured that the project is "outside" the current European Union guidelines for energy transition. "The approach of this macroproject is an obsolete energy model," criticized the New Winds group.
